Cuilcagh Boardwalk Trail & Lough Navar Forest Scenic Drive – Temporary Closure – 1, 2, 3 & 4 March 2024

Update : Please be advised that Lough Navar Scenic Drive has been reopened, today, Monday 4 March. and Cuilcagh Boardwalk Trail has now reopened, Tuesday 5 March.

Due to the overnight snowfall, please be advised the Cuilcagh Boardwalk Trail and Loough Navar Forest Scenic Drive are closed. We strongly advise the public to avoid areas on high ground within the Geopark.

Remember, at this time of year, weather conditions can change and deteriorate rapidly and that is without factoring in the decreases in temperature when we climb to higher elevations. So to help you stay safe while you enjoy the countryside during winter here are a few pointers to think about:

Winter brings shorter days and rapidly changing weather. Always tell someone where you are going and when you expect to return. Be sure to bring your mobile phone.

Good waterproofs and a layered clothing system are essential

Plan your route so you finish with daylight to spare. Winter brings shorter days and rapidly changing weather and consider an escape route that will allow you to shorten your day if its taking longer than you planned.

Wind, rain, low cloud, snow, or ice can all be experienced in winter and sometimes all in the one day. Make sure to check the weather forecast regularly.
