Into the Wild is a food trailer nestled in the foothills of Cuilcagh Mountain, surrounded by stunning natural beauty. Specialising in vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free food using seasonal, organic, homegrown produce from our garden (when available). Menus include soup, open sandwiches on local artisan sourdough bread, homemade cakes, and sweet treats. Serving organic, fair trade, single origin Brazilian coffee, hand roasted in Co Sligo, as well as tea, a selection of herbal teas and cold beverages.
Into the Wild was established in 2021 with the aim of providing fresh, healthy, great tasting food. So, whether you are veggie, vegan, gluten free or just darn hungry, we have something for everyone.
Facilities: We love people to come and enjoy the beautiful views we have on our doorstep. We have lovely, handcrafted seats and picnic tables with huge market style umbrellas so come rain or shine you can linger with a coffee while listening to the birdsong or enjoy a substantial lunch to fuel your adventures (or recover after them!)
As everything is outdoors, we are wheelchair accessible. Our garden is open to those that wish to wander and take a look at our field to food truck ethos in practice.
Parking is available onsite, although limited, we can always squeeze in one more. We have many fantastic walks nearby. From the cascading power of the Tullydermot waterfalls, a hike up the rugged cliffs of Cuilcagh mountain to the stunning beauty and tranquillity of Cavan Burren Park. If bikes are your thing and you like a challenge, we have the hills for you. If you want to go into the wild, Glangevlin, Co Cavan is the place to be.
How did the business sustainability training programme benefit you and your business?
The programme benefited us greatly in that it connected us to so many local like-minded businesses and gave us more of a sense of place, somewhere to promote and protect together. It is often easy to feel quite isolated when working in your own business but by doing the course it helped us to meet with others in the same position and opened new possibilities of collaboration. It gave us the chance to take a deeper look at our business to see where we could make improvements but also to acknowledge what we were doing right.
What is the main sustainability focus of your business?
From doing the course we identified that biodiversity is the area that our business can focus on to have the most impact. We are very passionate about the great outdoors and by having our food trailer open from home it gives us the opportunity to share our love of nature with those that come to visit.
In 2023 we plan to run workshops for kids on making bug hotels, to give talks on no dig gardening, plant many more native trees to combat the sad demise of some of our trees from ash dieback and to invest in more beautiful flowering plants to encourage pollinators.
Our vegetable garden will be getting a makeover with new paths going in which will hopefully make it more accessible to everyone to stay a while and enjoy it and hopefully find some inspiration to grow some fruit or veg too.
We have been to visit Samantha and Pauline at Hawthorn Lodge B&B where they very kindly talked us through their Bakachi and hot bin composting methods which we will definitely be looking into.
